Welcome!
This website is the platform of the Comenius project ALCUIN. The acronym stands for “Active Literacy: Competence and Understanding, Internally Naturalized – from decoding to understanding”. The website describes the work in progress.

ALCUIN in a few keywords:
• 2 year project (started October 2007)
• 10 partners from 5 schools, 4 Universities, and 1 Ministry of Education from 5 European countries:
Sweden (3), Cyprus (2), Finland, Italy (2), and Lithuania (2).
• Schools are all involved in teaching mother tongue and English as a foreign language
• Universities are involved in Teacher Training
• Development of many different pedagogical methods that will motivate students and give them effective strategies when dealing with advanced literature.
• Teacher guidelines ready to use in classroom situation that will prove effective in the education of literature at upper secondary school, translated into all partners Mother tongue
• CD-ROM, offering the practitioner new perspectives on teaching, which will meet with today’s
demands.
• Establishment of a website where the communication between all participants will take place
throughout the project.
Coordinator of the project is the Department of Education, Development and Evaluation Unit, City of Malmo Sweden.
